Time Management Inside the JEE Advanced Exam Hall

JEE Advanced doesn't just test what you know — it tests how well you allocate three hours against questions of wildly different difficulty. Many capable students lose ranks not from lack of knowledge but from poor time triage.

Use a three-pass system. First pass: solve only the questions you're certain about, moving fast, skipping anything that needs more than 90 seconds of thought. This alone typically banks 40-50% of your achievable score in the first 30 minutes.

Second pass: return to questions that need calculation or multi-step reasoning, spending your remaining time proportionally to marks available, not to how interesting the question looks.

Third pass: only attempt the hardest, most time-consuming questions once everything else is secured. It's better to have five confirmed medium-difficulty answers than one brilliant but unfinished hard one.

Practice this pacing in every mock test, not just on exam day — pacing is a skill that needs repetition under timed conditions to become instinctive.
